Daphne x burkwoodii Turrill ‘Albert Burkwood’ A small, dense, rounded semi-evergreen shrub to 1 m tall; a garden hybrid raised in 1931 by Albert and Arthur Burkwood, by pollinating D. cneorum with D. caucasica pollen. Two clones are common in cultivation, 'Albert Burkwood' and 'Somerset', both raised at the same time. They differ in many minor characters, but 'Somerset' is taller up to 1.5 m, and usually less spreading in growth with pinker but smaller flowers and broader leaves. Both flower in late spring and are easy to grow in a sunny position in well-drained soil. Hardy to -20°C. |
