Daphne pontica L. (Thymelaeaceae) Native of the Black Sea coast from Bulgaria to Turkey and Soviet Georgia, where it grows in woods, on shady cliffs or at high altitudes in the open, from 50-2200 m, flowering from February to October in the wild. It makes an evergreen bush up to 1.5 m high and as much across, with scented flowers. In cultivation easily grown in shade or semi-shade in humus-rich alkaline or acid soil, flowering in spring. Hardy to -20°C.
