Drimys lanceolata (Poir .) Baillon (syn. Drimys aromatica Muell., Tasmannia lanceolata (Poir.) A. C. Smith) (Winteraceae) Pepper Tree Native of S. Australia, in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania, growing in moist places in the mountains up to 1500 m. It is an evergreen and can reach 10 m in height but is usually less. Bark and leaves aromatic, like cinnamon. Flowers greenish-yellow or white, male, female and bisexual, in terminal umbels; petals 2-8. In cultivation usually a low shrub of dense habit, liable to damage in cold winters. Hardy to -15°C. Spring.
