Eupatorium sordidum Lee., syns. Eupatorium macrophyllum hort. Bartlettina sordida (Less.) R. King & H. Robinson. (Compositae) An erect shrub with fragrant pink to violet flowers, native of Mexico, growing in forests, scrub or waste places, flowering in winter. Stems to 3m, densely covered in red woolly hairs. Leaves to 10cm, broadly egg-shaped, coarsely toothed. Flower heads to 12mm, in large, terminal clusters, sweet-smelling, pink to violet. Min. -5°C. A very variable plant differing greatly in size of leaves, hairiness and colour and size of flower heads. The form shown here is a particularly good large one, commonly grown along the Riviera. |
