Eucalyptus leucoxylon F. Muell. Yellow Gum, Blue Gum or White Ironbark A slender tree with flaking bark, long narrow hanging leaves and white to red flowers, native of New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria, growing in open forest on good soil, flowering in May–September. Tree to 30m; leaves 7–20cm long, to 3.5cm wide, usually greyish. Flowers in threes, pendulous, 3cm across; fruit 1.2cm across. A graceful tree with lovely flowers, especially in red and pink forms. Min. -8°C. E. sideroxylon A. Cunn. is similar, but has persistant bark and smaller flowers in umbels of 7. Both are much planted in dry-summer climates. Z9. |
