Eucalyptus ficifolia F. Muell. Syn. Corymbia ficifolia Red Flowering Gum A large shrub or small tree with green broadly lanceolate leaves and large red flowers, native of SW Western Australia, growing in acid sandy soil, flowering in January–March. Tree to 15m; leaves 7–14cm long, 3–5cm wide. Flowers to 4cm across, sometimes white, pink or cream; fruit 3cm in diameter. A spectacular specimen for a mild Mediterranean climate. Seedlings vary in colour but good forms can be grafted. Best on the coast in California. Min. -3°C. Z9. Eucalyptus ficifolia in the S Cape, South Africa |
