Echium callithyrsum Webb ex Bolle (Boraginaceae) A spreading shrub with lanceolate to ovate leaves and short dense ovate spikes of deep blue flowers, native of Gran Canaria, growing on cliffs at 800–1500m, flowering in May–July. Shrub to 1.5m high and wide. Leaves with large-based setae on the upper surface, with simple hairs and prominant pubescent veins on the lower surface. The rather similar E. webbii Coincy from La Palma has laxer spikes and leaves with similar hairs on both surfaces. Needs sun and well-drained soil. Min. -3°C.
