Echinopsis terscheckii This cactus is found in river valleys in the Andes of northern Argentina. The bluish green, columnar trunk, 45cm (18in) in diameter, is much branched well above the ground, and has 8–18 ribs and rather few dark spines. The trumpet-shaped flowers, 15–20 (6–8in) long, are reddish and greenish outside, with white petals, and produced in summer. Cultivation Needs deep sandy soil. Water intermittently in summer. Height to 9m (30ft); spread to 4.5m (15ft). USZ 9–11, surviving -3°C (27°F) of overnight frost. Tolerant of summer drought. |
