The company
Rogers Plants Limited was formed in 2001 with the avowed aim of becoming the foremost
plant illustration site in the world. We feel secure in this ambition in that we have
total access to the plant photographs of Roger Phillips and Martyn Rix, Roger and Martyn
have produced more than 45 books over the years illustrating every aspect of both wild
and garden plants, in addition they have a vast collection of unpublished pictures.
They are also continually adding to all their picture files.
The site build and maintenance is organised by Glide Technology one of the most
advanced, imaginative and inventive companies flourishing today. Check them out
on their web site: glidetechnologies.com.
The first site, Roses was launched in July 2001 featuring over 6,000 pictures,
the second, Mushrooms was launched in September 2004 it features some 3,500 mushroom
photographs. The third site Trees and Shrubs was launched in April 2008 featuring over
9,000 pictures.
The sites have been a runaway success rapidly building to over two million visits a year
and growing at over 50% year on year. On average every visitor looks at eleven pages
on each visit, so the traffic is becoming vast. We have visitors from more than 100
countries, with naturally America and Britain being the dominant countries.
The sites have all been financed with investment from friends and family.
Currently the company is raising investment to launch the fourth site 'Flowers',
this site will include Perennials, Bulbs, Annuals and possibly Herbs and Vegetables.
It will be the largest site of all featuring some 12,000 pictures. A site of this
size will take about fifteen months to build, much of the time being taken up with
scanning and data entry for each plant.

Roger Phillips
In 1975 Roger Phillips began his life's major work of photographing and publishing pictures of plants
of the world, both from the wild and in gardens. Using modern photographic techniques, Roger set out
to develop an encyclopaedic collection of books to show the difference between plants as diverse as
trees, mosses, roses and mushrooms. His first book 'Wild Flowers of Britain' was a huge success,
selling 400,000 copies in the first year. He has since written 27 additional volumes (often with
his co-author Martyn Rix) selling over 5 million copies worldwide. (The books)
Roger has written and presented two major six-part TV series on gardening
(BBC & Channel 4). Famed for his ebullient personality and garish red glasses,
he has become a well-recognised figure in the world of gardening.
Roger trained at Chelsea School of Art from where he entered a career in advertising
culminating in the position of art director at Ogilvy & Mather Advertising. He
left O&M to start a career as a freelance photographer, winning many awards
before turning his photographic talents to the world of natural history.
